Morning: on foot with a guide
The Speicherstadt and HafenCity walking tour takes about two hours: red-brick warehouses, canals, the Wasserschloss, HafenCity and the Elbphilharmonie. The meeting point is in front of the Hard Rock Cafe at the Landungsbrücken, Pier 6. Architecture fans should pick the World Heritage tour: the Speicherstadt and Kontorhaus district with the Chilehaus and Sprinkenhof, meeting in front of the Chilehaus (U1 Meßberg). Public tours are in German; private tours are available in English.
Afternoon: from the water
On the harbor tour from the Landungsbrücken, Pier 1, you see the Speicherstadt from the water, right through the canals when the tide allows, plus the container port. Boats leave regularly during the day.
Evening: the Speicherstadt lit up
The Speicherstadt has been illuminated every evening since 2001. The best way to see it is the harbor lights cruise, which starts at dusk and takes about 1.5 hours.
